Monsoon Session 2025: Parliament Ignites with Operation Sindoor Debate and Key Legislative Agenda

The Monsoon Session of India’s Parliament kicked off on July 21, 2025, setting the stage for a high-stakes political showdown. With 21 sittings scheduled until August 21, the session promises intense debates on critical national issues, none more contentious than Operation Sindoor. This precision airstrike, launched by the Indian Armed Forces against terror camps in Pakistan following the devastating Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025, has become a focal point of national discourse. As the government, led by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, signals openness to discuss all matters, the opposition is gearing up to press Prime Minister Narendra Modi for clarity on the operation and U.S. President Donald Trump’s controversial ceasefire claims. With 17 bills on the table and a charged political atmosphere.

Operation Sindoor, hailed by PM Modi as a “Vijay Utsav” (celebration of victory), saw Indian forces neutralize terror targets in just 22 minutes, showcasing the country’s military prowess. The operation, a response to the Pahalgam attack that claimed 26 lives, including 25 tourists and a local, has stirred both pride and scrutiny. The opposition, led by the INDIA bloc, is demanding a detailed discussion, questioning the government on strategic disclosures and alleged intelligence lapses. They’ve also raised concerns over Trump’s repeated claims of mediating a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, which, if true, could challenge the Shimla Agreement’s stance against third-party mediation. Congress leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge have insisted that PM Modi address these issues directly in Parliament, accusing the government of evading accountability.

Beyond Operation Sindoor, the session will tackle other pressing matters, including the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, which the opposition fears may lead to voter disenfranchisement ahead of state elections. The legislative agenda is equally robust, with key bills like the Income Tax Bill, 2025, the National Sports Governance Bill, 2025, and the Manipur Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2025, lined up for discussion. The extension of President’s Rule in Manipur, imposed in February 2025, will also be debated, alongside issues like the Pahalgam attack, India’s foreign policy, and the Air India crash probe. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Rijiju has emphasized that discussions must adhere to House rules, assuring that the Business Advisory Committees of both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will finalize the agenda.

The opposition’s aggressive stance was evident on Day 1, with Congress MPs submitting adjournment notices to prioritize debates on Operation Sindoor and national security. Tensions flared as Rahul Gandhi accused the government of stifling opposition voices, while Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla called for cooperation to ensure constructive debates. With the session pausing from August 12 to 18 for Independence Day, the 32-day period will test the government’s ability to navigate a united opposition and a packed legislative slate. As India watches, the Monsoon Session 2025 promises to be a defining moment for national security, electoral transparency, and governance.
Stay tuned for live updates on Parliament’s Monsoon Session 2025, Operation Sindoor debates, and key legislative developments shaping India’s future.
