A deadly crush resulted from panic among the large crowd following a rumor that a high-voltage wire had fallen on the temple path. Devotees, including women and children, were confined in the small passageway; some fell, while others were unable to flee, causing chaos, according to witnesses.
The Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL), which discovered no evidence of current leakage, confirmed that the stampede was caused by a rumor rather than an actual electrical fault, according to Haridwar SSP Pramendra Singh Dobal. Arush, Vivek, Vipin Saini, Vishal Kumar, Wakeel, Shanti Devi, Ram Bharose, and Shakal Dev were among the deceased, who were from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Uttarakhand, and ranged in age from 12 to 65. Four of the 30 injured are still in critical condition at AIIMS Rishikesh.
