Soundarya Composite PU College Embraces Cleaner Air with IISc’s Innovative Donation

On July 26, 2025, Soundarya Composite PU College, Bengaluru, moved toward building a healthier, more sustainable campus as part of its Guru Vandana celebration. They received a Cyclofine Air Purifier from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), which is a pioneering research and innovation institution in India, developed in collaboration with IIT Madras. With this important air purification initiative, and as part of the Guru Vandana celebration, we proudly launched this historic partnership to address environmental consciousness and care for our students’ physical and mental well-being, and we encourage educational entities in Bengaluru and India to follow us.

The Cyclofine Air Purifier, developed by Professor Praveen C. Ramamurthy of IISc’s Centre for Nano Science and Engineering (CeNSE), represents more than a new device; it’s a commitment to a cleaner air and a healthier environment for students and staff. Professor Ramamurthy praised the advanced capabilities the device offers, including its comprehensive ability to eliminate air pollution while being sustainable. It comes at an important time as air quality concerns grow in major urban centres like Bengaluru, presenting a gift that represents a collaboration leading to environmental action between leading education institutions and the education sector.

Soundarya Composite PU College is a leader of pre-university institutions in north Bangalore who, for years, has pursued complete and total student development. Established in 2005, and with class cohorts now numbering over 10,000, the college has balanced academic integrity with moral development at its 3-acre campus; even with the promise of the Cyclofine Air Purifier, it does not take away from its commitment to providing a safe, professional, and futuristic learning experience. It improves the campus, while also serving as an example to institutions to continue to approve of their environmental health aspirations.

The donation comes at a time when air pollution is a threat to people’s health, and especially young students who spend long hours in educational institutions. The Cyclofine Air Purifier takes care of pollutants like PM2.5, PM10, dust, pollen, and allergens to provide a cleaner, safer breathing space. By installing this kind of leading technology, Soundarya Composite PU College is taking proactive steps to protect their students’ health by ensuring they can study without concern over air quality.

Further, this collaboration, which will provide students with an experience in the latest applied research, demonstrates the larger role universities can play in social change. The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), a globally recognized institution for its research and reputation, has a rich history of contributing to the development of science and technology in India since it was established in 1909. Its donation of the Cyclofine Air Purifier illustrates how it can extend its innovations beyond laboratories into communities for a culture of sustainable behavior and responsibility.

The Guru Vandana event, where the air purifier was inaugurated, was a monumental celebration of honor and advancement, where students, faculty members and distinguished guests gathered to recognize the importance of working together to combat the environmental issues that we face. The adoption of this purifier by Soundarya Composite PU College represents a progressive vision, where the college administration recognizes that students need to be academically ready and cultivated in an environment that supports their health and well-being. This initiative should serve as an unequivocal appeal to educational institutions to embrace innovation, and to take advantage of the Cyclofine Air Purifier to create learning spaces and environments that contribute to a healthier future. A partnership with IISc is a powerful statement by Soundarya Composite PU College, illustrating that education and innovation, when combined, create an opportunity to form a brighter, cleaner and healthier future for the next generation.
